Please read the instructions on how to properly use the carrier before attempting to use the carrier for the first time. Follow the instructions accordingly. Always make sure your child is properly secured in the carrier.

Please inspect the carrier before every use to make sure that all the stitching, fabric and buckles are in good condition. This rule applies to any other carrier. If you are not confident it is in good, safe condition, DO NOT use the carrier. Remember, your child’s safety is of utmost importance.

Please take extra care when doing extra movements while wearing the carrier such as when bending, squatting, running, etc. Place an arm over your baby.

How to care for your AidaFiqs Mei-Tai / Buckle-Tai

i). Spot clean whenever possible.

ii). Hand or machine wash on cold and line dry.

iii). Iron on low to medium heat only if necessary. Minimum ironing on padded area.

iv). DO NOT bleach your carrier as this will compromise the quality and strength of the carrier.

v). DO NOT use fabric softener as this may cause the carrier to be too slippery for safe usage.

vi). DO NOT tumble-dry your carrier.

Daddy’s Favourite – AidaFiqs Buckle-Tai

This carrier is as comfortable, sturdy and stylish as the Original Mei Tai. The appearance and function is similar to a Mei Tai but it has many more advantages to offer. The long straps are replaced by shorter straps connected to sturdy adjustable buckles, making it much more compact and easier to maneuver and put on in a crowded area. The buckles also offer a more men-friendly looks, allowing the daddies and other males relatives to join in the fun of babywearing. According to my hubby, it is good enough to wear while playing football!

The Buckle-Tai is the sort of carrier that can be shared by both the Mommy and Daddy. (However, my husband loves this carrier so much that he’s been monopolizing every babywearing opportunities nowadays that I’m starting to feel left out! Lol!) If you're looking to get only one carrier for the family, this carrier could be The One!

The design is simple – 1 waist strap and 2 shoulder straps with buckles attached to a rectangle body with a curved headrest. It works just like the Original Mei Tai, except that you don’t need to tie it on, just plug in the buckles. Buckle-Tai also comes with an attached toy ring to keep you child entertained.

I can actually claim that most of the design of the Buckle-Tai is my own. There are no available patterns or instructions on making a Buckle-Tai that I came up with my own fit and design. You will be getting a one-of-a-kind, truly unique carrier!

Remember, the Buckle-Tai is a 2-shouldered carrier. It distributes the baby’s weight well to both your shoulders and hips. Baby’s weight feels more than twice lighter than a one shouldered carrier. It can be used for up to hours without feeling any pain or discomfort.

Mommy’s Favourite – AidaFiqs Mei-Tai (Original)

This carrier is comfortable, sturdy, fashionable and versatile. When tied on, it moulds itself and the baby to your body as if they are an extension of your own. The design is simple – 2 waist straps and 2 shoulder straps attached to a rectangle body with a curved headrest.

The waist and shoulder straps are lightly padded for comfort. The ends are tapered just for looks and easy tying. The curved headrest is also lightly padded for the baby’s comfort. It can also be folded down to allow hands-out freedom. The body is made from 2 layers of sturdy but soft cotton material. AidaFiqs Babywearing Story

When I delivered Adam, I had no exposure to babywearing and attachment parenting yet. We already had a simple store-bought carrier, which was bought during my pregnancy simply to complete the baby “checklist”. My confinement was a difficult one, very strict and rigid, and I was sleep deprived and constantly exhausted. I felt like I was on nursing duty 24-7 and had to hold the baby constantly. I barely had time and the extra hands to eat, let alone sleep or do other things. My baby loves to be held close (as does all babies!) and I love snuggling with him too. I turned to the store-bought carrier for help, only to find that it was way too large to fit both me and the baby. The baby’s body is supported at the crotch, which I later learned is terrible for the baby's spine! (read more on that here). I put it away and let my arms suffer for months.

If only I knew.

If only someone had shed the lights and joys of babywearing to me in those difficult early days.

Fast forward a few months. I came across The Babywearer website. They have such good information on babywearing (you could get lost in that place, seriously!) I was so eager to start wearing my baby, and yet there were no good carriers easily available in Malaysia. The only ones I could find were pouches and ring-slings, which are basically 1-shouldered carriers. My baby was already big at this point, so I was desperate for a 2-shouldered carrier. I do not own paypal (or a credit card! But that’s another story :p ) so I could not shop online for carriers. Then I came across the Mamatoto project website. It was like a moment of epiphany – I can MAKE my own carriers!

I couldn’t sew at the time so I started with a no-sew wrap. Of course I didn’t know that there’s a very steep learning curve with wraps so it was very difficult in the beginning that I almost gave up. Then I learned about Mei Tais. A traditional carrier that has all the critical criteria’s I was looking for – 2-shoulder, comfort, versatility and style! I had started sewing at this point so I was contemplating sewing my own. But it seemed too difficult to try.

But I’m glad I did because it changed my life forever. I made a Mei Tai (original) and never looked back since. Such a God-sent! My baby loved it and fell asleep the first time I tried it on! Since then I tried to convince my husband to wear it too but the long straps weren’t for him. He wanted to babywear too and asked me to make him a “Mei Tai with Buckles”. I didn’t take him seriously at first but after much persuasion and finally designed and sewed my own Buckle-Tai, which is basically a “Mei-Tai with Buckles”. He loved it so much! We’ve experimented with other carriers but our own handmade Mei Tais are still our favourites. I feel overwhelmed with pride everytime I see them together, wearing a carrier I made.

My husband decided this discovery is far too great to be kept just in our little family. He convinced me I could share the joy of babywearing with other mommies and daddies who love their babies just as much as we do.

Babies Are Special

Babies are wonderful and every baby is unique. They are our legacy in this world. The bond between the parents and the babies is just priceless. Babies love to be cuddled and hugged by their parents – they love the warmth and security of being close to us.

Odd Tough Times

However, once in a while these cute and adorable human being do give us the parents some hard and tough times especially when they get cranky and clingy. Sometimes they fall sick and become clingy and this is when they need us the most. They need to be held constantly at times like these to help them recover and be calmer and re-assured but this is not necessarily comfortable for the parents for long duration, to be honest. It's ok and bearable for certain duration of time but if the baby needs a little longer time to be held then it might become a handful task for the parents.

Babies Are Curious

They are very curious with the new world and new life experiences. They like to explore everything that they come across with. They love to get involved in what their parents do, for example doing house chores - Cleaning, hoovering, mopping, dishwashing, cooking , everything else. They just want to do it together with you. It's quite difficult to do all sorts of things while holding your baby. Sometimes it might hurt your arm because one hand is doing something else and the other is holding your cute and ever curious baby.

Mobilising Your Baby

When we are outside our house going somewhere maybe for shopping or even just strolling in a park we don't actually want to leave our baby behind. We would just feel missing on something and incomplete. You may wish to enjoy outdoor activities with them – hiking, walking by the beach, playing ball at the park, shopping. There are a lot of ways of mobilising your baby together with you and one of the most common one is using a stroller. We do have a stroller for our baby and sometimes we have problems when we go to places where there are massive crowds. It's hard to push through the stroller in between large crowds. It's also difficult to bring the stroller when we are using an escalator especially in shopping complex. With the weight of the stroller and our baby inside who is getting bigger and bigger day by day it's just too risky. So it's better and safer to use lifts which sometimes are very limited in some places. Plus, the baby just hates being in the stroller! He loves to be closer to us!Now with the better option of babywearing, the stroller is long forgotten.

The Unique and Flexible Babywearing

For some people, babywearing is one of the answer for most of the situations above which I believe most parents have experienced them. However, it's a personal choice really because different people have different kind of views and opinions. You yourself know best of what is best for you, your family and your baby. We love babywearing because of its uniqueness and ranges of flexibility that it offers. The most important reason is because babywearing provides great opportunity for fostering the special bond between the parents and the baby.There are various types of babywearing gear to name a few, simple piece of cloth (SPOC), pouch, ring sling, wrap, soft structured carrier (SSC) and Mei-Tai.
